Oxendine & Co.

Featured this month to start another year of highlighting our amazing clientele is a Tennessee based full service Production Company, Oxendine & Co.  While working with name brand companies such as Coca-Cola and ESPN, to passion projects, they always rely on Core SWX to power all aspects in their productions. Below we have a Q&A with the founder of the company, Tyler Oxendine.

1.  Tell us about yourself and how you got started as a photographer and filmmaker.

I started my career off as an advertising photographer, swearing I’d never do anything other than photography (especially not video). I always had a love for the sports world and specializing in portraits. While working as a full-time photographer, I found clients asking more and more for video content. Fast forward to the boom of video DSLR and I found myself slowly transitioning into the video world. In 2018, I started Oxendine & Co, which is a full service production company.  As much as l love still photography, my company has transitioned to 95% video work these days and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

2. What is one of your favorite video projects you worked on and why?

I get asked this a lot and it’s a tough question because I’ve had the opportunity to work on some amazing projects over the years.  I really enjoy the hunt for new projects in and of itself. I have found myself looking at past Instagram posts, seeing projects I’ve done that I’ve completely forgot about and remembering how awesome of an experience that was.

3. What is your creative process when tackling a project?

It really varies from project to project. I’m not sure I actually have one. I find that I work and thrive better in tight deadlines. If I have too much time, I tend to procrastinate when it comes to anything creative, whereas, a tight deadline helps me not overthink that aspect of the job. When I have the creative freedom I press in on doing things different and out of the box. Sometimes when I’m searching for some fresh ideas for a job, I sit down with my five year old to get some next generation plans.

4. What Core SWX products do you use and how are they beneficial to your productions?

I have always used Core SWX batteries since day one. We use the Hypercore 9 mini for powering EVERYTHING on set. We use them for camera, director monitor, client monitor, and lights. Having a handful of the CORE SWX batteries on standby has saved us in so many situations when having to power anything during a shoot. Side note, it doubles as a great onset phone charger.

5. What exciting new projects can we look forward to seeing next?

I had the opportunity to shoot some amazing projects this year. The biggest project I had was a campaign across the southeast shooting 10 spots.  Each spot featuring a different state. We spent a lot of time in a crowded 15 passenger van and got to eat some amazing local restaurants- which was always a win! I also worked on some exciting personal projects, that I haven’t had the opportunity to do in years. Having complete creative control from pre-production to final edit is inspiring. Most of these projects will be out of post in beginning of 2020.

Be sure to keep an eye for those projects coming soon by checking out their website, and following Tyler’s Instagram.
